Luas

‘Luas – adding the missing link!’

This was the brief of the competition whereby the artist was given the task of visualizing the meeting of two separate rail networks in Dublin City of which construction was about to begin shortly threreafter.

The theme of the 2012 Luas Art Competition was ‘Luas – adding the missing link!’ This theme related to Luas Broombridge, the planned new extension of the Luas Green Line (Brides Glen to St. Stephen’s Green) through the city centre to Broombridge.

A recognisable feature of the Luas are the cobble stoned paths in which the iron tram tracks are laid and therefore the decision was made to make this a principle visual in the design. Using track like paths the word luas, which is the Irish word for speed,  was then embedded in these cobble stones with two colors running in the centre symbolising the existing red and green tracks of the Luas routes.
